Rockefeller Center
New York City, NY
It was our first night in the Big Apple and Justin suggested we go ice skating and see the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center. -It was my dream to see the that Christmas Tree during Christmas.- So, when he made the suggestion, of course, I jumped out of my seat and we went directly there!
It was nearly Christmas, so when we arrived in Rockefeller Center, below the Christmas tree, the line for the ice skating rink was extremely long. Justin suggested we wait in line a little longer, but I suggested we come back the following day instead. (Looking back, Justin seemed quite anxious while we were waiting). -Little did I know his plan was to PROPOSE under the beautiful Christmas tree! Eeeekk!!!-
We both agreed to visit the ice rink the next day, assuming the line would be a bit shorter. We then walked toward the Saks Fifth Avenue building to view the brilliant light display. As we walked towards the light show we saw that a company was taking pictures of “tourists.” (I thought this would be my one and only chance to get a decent picture of us on the trip, other than selfies.) We waited in line only a few short minutes before it was our turn to pose for the camera. When we were standing in position, (of the tree and the angels) the photographer asked us to pose in five different “lovey-dovey” positions (it was SUPER cheesy, but I loved every second of it). Then, after the last pose, Justin announced that he had ONE LAST POSE he would like them to capture. He then got down on one knee, pulled out a ring (at the time I couldn’t comprehend what exactly he pulled out of his pocket, but had an idea of what it was) out of his pocket and asked me the one question that would bind us together forever, “Will You Marry Me?” (Well, to be honest, I didn’t know exactly what he was saying because everything was a blur and of course, I was crying HYSTERICALLY)! We then hugged + kissed + I did eventually say YES, as soon as I could breathe again.
The proposal felt like a fairy tail, with everyone around us cheering!
We soon called our family and friends and then, or course, celebrated with celebratory beers at a local Irish Pub! (How ironic, we started the first day of our forever at an Irish Pub + we started the first day of our relationship at an Irish Pub. What can I say, we sure do love Irish Pubs)!
We spent the rest of our wonderful trip doing as many “touristy” things as we possibly could! We walk the streets of NYC, saw the beautiful Christmas Tree and light show in Rockefeller Center, stayed in Time Square, ate the local cuisine, went to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, experienced NYC from the top of the Empire State Building, walked around and skated in Central Park, played with toys at FAO Schwartz, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, saw Wall Street, + SO MUCH MORE! It was a vacation I will NEVER forget! OH! And if you are wondering if we ever ended up ice skating, yes we did!
My advice to all those in the stage where an engagement might be right around the corner, let that special someone surprise you. You never know when the love of your life will surprise you with the most wonderful Christmas gift of all!
