I use coconut oil for several different things including; cooking, skin moisturizer, lip balm, and for overall digestive health/support. But I want to tell you all about the wonderful benefits of oil pulling using coconut oil! I just started oil pulling a few months ago and I absolutely LOVE it!
As a BONUS it whitens teeth, which is perfect for the Holidays!
WHAT IS COCONUT OIL PULLING?
Oil pulling, also known as “oil swishing,” is an incredible oral detoxification practice. It (the coconut oil) removes the bacteria/toxins from your mouth, leaving a clean antiseptic oral environment. How AWESOME is that?!
WHY COCONUT OIL vs. OTHER OILS?
Coconut oil has been known to-
- Improve digestion
- Balance hormones
- Balance blood sugar
- Improve energy
- Burn fat
- Lower LDL cholesterol
- Moisturize skin
- Decrease wrinkles
- It is also highly absorbable
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF COCONUT OIL PULLING?
- Whitens teeth
- Kills bad breath
- Removes bacteria
- Aids teeth health
- Prevents cavities
- Cures tooth decay
- Boosts immune support
- Improves acne
- Soothes throat dryness
- Prevents heart diseases
- Heals bleeding gums/strengthens gums
The benefits of oil pulling reach far beyond oral health:
Research has shown it to purify the entire system; as each section of the tongue is connected to a different organ (kidneys, lungs, liver, heart, small intestines, stomach, colon, and spine).
HOW “TO DO” COCONUT OIL PULLING
It is essential that you purchase UNREFINED coconut oil. UNREFINED coconut oil is not chemically processed, it is richer in proteins, vitamins, antioxidants and does not contain additives. Whereas, refined coconut oil is chemically processed and treated with sodium hydroxide and bleach.
– I also prefer to purchase ORGANIC coconut oil for increased benefits. –
STEPS:
- Place 1 Tbsp. on coconut oil on a spoon
- Place the coconut oil in mouth
- Swish the coconut oil in your mouth for 5-10 minutes. -Try not to swallow the oil.
- When done, spit the access oil in a garbage (you don’t want that bacteria filled oil clogging up your pipes)
- Rinse your mouth out with water.
- Brush your teeth as normal.
NOTES:
– The best times to oil pull (swish) are in the morning, while in the shower, or at night, before bed.
– Try not to swish too vigorously, as your cheeks are bound to get quite tired/sore.
– It helps with dry lips, I always put it on my lips during and after pulling.
– I prefer to do this at least 4 times a week! I have noticed my teeth whitening as well as the overall oral health
– Oil pulling is safe for all ages!
Happy Pulling!
